Penang Snake Temple

penang Nov 01, 2022

Are you afraid of snakes? Wouldn't it be nice if you could get close to many venomous snakes without getting hurt/bit by any one of them? Yes! There's always something that can catch you by surprise once you step into Penang.

Situated at Bayan Lepas Industrial Park, about 10 minutes from Penang International Airport, Penang Snake Temple allows you to get up close to poisonous snakes when you visit this temple.

Let's have some fun facts before we continue our journey in this incredible temple. This temple was built in 1850 to honour Chor Soo Kong, a Buddhist monk who lived during the Song dynasty for his good deeds.

You must be wondering, "Why it's called Snake Temple?" Make a guess and share it with me in the comment below!

Let's move your step and follow me into this amazing temple without delay.

You'll notice a " green snake" on the stair before heading to the temple.

Open your eyes; you'll notice some snakes coiled around the stands in front of the altar, and some of them will be hiding near the vase.

SMART TIP! 💡 There was another snake hiding on top of an old photo frame; you may miss it if you don't pay attention when you walk around.

If you are brave enough, you can grab this opportunity to take a photo with giant pythons (under the supervision of the handler). Of course, you need to pay a small fee for this.

Don't stop there! Continue your journey to the snake breeding area. It's time to test how good your eyesight is.

Could you find any snakes on these trees?

Of course, I found them. (This proves that my eyesight is still good) 😉😉😉

If you walk further, the Shrine Hall of Kuan Yin is located at the rear of this snake temple. It's surrounded by beautiful plants.

If you don't in a rush, time your time to stroll around, and it may surprise you. I found the giant bell and two street arts during my visit.

Souvenirs always remind you of an interesting place you have visited. Some souvenir shops are located at the entrance, and you may purchase some of them before leaving.

After visiting many natural sites in Penang, why not take part in something different? Penang Snake Temple is ready to welcome you! The best part? The entrance fee is FREE. What are you waiting for? Move your step to this snake temple in Penang today!
